Mike Gonzalez |
What does Mike Gonzalez, the Executive Director of United Brownsville do all day to earn his salary? I have suggested he may be an expert in crosswords or video games. What is the daily routine for Debbie Portillo, the Special Assistant to the Executive Director of United Brownsville?
Last year, when Mike Gonzalez appeared before the BISD Board of Trustees in his annual dun for money, Superintendent Carl Montoya was asked to explain how United Brownsville benefits BISD. He could not, but the trustees voted to continue blindly funding the entity nonetheless.
When Gonzalez appeared before the City Commission during the same pledge drive, Commissioner Melissa Zamora asked for more details on what United Brownsville actually does. Gonzalez promised to come back before the commission with a rundown, but, of course, has not fulfilled that request.
The City Commission, rapidly gaining the intestinal fortitude to block backdoor deals, may be our only hope to finally end this shadowy, unaccountable boondoggle of an organization that is controlled by unsavory business interests in Brownsville. Finally blocking this misuse of public funds will not bring back the million dollars wasted on the initial plan, the hundreds of thousands of dollars squandered since, but it will stop the bleeding.
These guys made a presentation to one of the departments at BISD, they say that they get about 4 companies a year to come down for an official presentation and visit. Does not seem like much bang for your buck.
ReplyDeleteThis scam needs to be shut down yesterday! Fred Rusteberg and Carlos Marin have stolen and pillaged enough without a taxpayer supported enterprise to use as a cover.
ReplyDeleteIts Carlos Marin, it has always been Carlos Marin.
ReplyDeleteSame guy that backs more special interests. Now he's got his boy, fil vela up in congress.
DeleteI would be glad to lead the effort to stop all this waste of taxpayer money. When I filed a law suit against the City of Brownsville they were in violation of the City Charter. I formed a non-profit organization and got donations to help cover some of the expenses. We won the case. I need to know what rule, charter, regulation or directive they are violating. I still have the non-profit organization available and there are many citizens fed up with this mess. I am going to write to the Texas Education Agency to see if I can get some help on BISD using taxpayer money to fund non- educational projects. They are wasting educational dollars that should be going to our kids. Help me document the violations. I'll start the effort. But I will need volunteers to help get out the word.
