Seney Still Running Roughshod Over Non-STAMP Students and Teachers at Veterans

Michelle Seney, STAMP Program Administrator
MMB has been following the gross mismanagement of the new $75,000,000 Veterans Memorial High School. In an article published August 20, 2012, Mean Mister Brownsville detailed the conversion of a number of classrooms into jumbo-sized offices for the STAMP Coordinator and her staff causing a number of VMHS teachers to have to "float" without a classroom:

"Instead, focus on the new $75,000,000 high school designed for 2,200 students; Veterans Memorial. The full service high school, complete with athletic facilities, vocational training classrooms and other amenities had its focus abruptly short-circuited by declaring it a STAMP facility. Hundreds of students within the school's geographic territory, but not in the STAMP program, had to be reassigned to other Brownsville high schools. The outcry of taxpayers went unheeded as the corrupt BISD board simply 'knows better."

We received reports of gross neglect of students attending Veterans who were not in the STAMP program, such as this one:
"3 weeks into the school year, VMHS is missing an English 2 teacher, so students are doing nothing. To top it off, end of courses and benchmarks will come soon. They also are lacking an algebra 2 teachers so students are without teachers. However, STAMP students (the more highly regarded students) have teachers for everything and their core area teachers are not allowed to teach regular students that lack teachers. Theres even one STAMP teacher with 3 classes all day and that person has the rest of the day off? STAMP student to teacher ratio= 15:1 "Regular" student to teacher ratio= 25-30:1!
Fair? I don't think so!"

When we reported that Seney and her support staff were not satisfied with the size of their offices, but were converting whole classrooms into office space for STAMP administrators, we received this comment:
"I'm impressed! I thought I was the only one aware of the disaster at Veterans. You need to update that number of floaters to Six! Also, you yanked out all the two (2) year old desks for students and teachers and replaced them with new ones. All the two year old computers for the students piled up in some room and new ones for the STAMP program. What a waste of money! Also, another lost classroom for her secretary and another lost classroom for her counselor. Teachers are leaving as we speak in total disgust and it's only going to get worse. They told you about this awesome program between the community, the school, and the medical field. Mrs. Seney hosted a luncheon for all the medical community, doctors, hospital administrators, etc. etc. One doctor showed up, about 4 from the medical community, and your school administrators. About 25 total. They invited 250, does this look like the medical community is serious about this poorly planned attempt to keep our children from going to Mercedes to get a real education in medical fields. What a joke!"

Now, we've received an update on the current situation at Veterans from someone very close to the situation:

Seney's running the school, Jim. The STAMP kids are her little saints that all of us are expected to love. These poor kids must wear their STAMP shirt every Wednesday or face disciplinary consequences. Poor Mary Solis (our principal) is constantly emasculated by Seney but, then again, that doesn't surprise me. Solis tries to at least be productive but Seney is calling the shots. It's all about STAMP and screw everyone else. That seems to be the theme at Veterans!  The school needs Acacia Ameel back.  She would fight off Seney and treat students equally.   We need a principal and leader with a backbone and a heart. Seney has a backbone, but no heart. Solis has a heart, but no backbone.  Mrs. Acacia Ameel is the perfect balance is and can save veterans before it's too late. Veterans simply needs Ameel...

  1. Simply untrue! Ms. Solis has been taking complete control of her campus. Seney has lost her big office. Seney has lost her approval power. Seney has lost her budget. Seney has even lost her authority to make program recommendations. Ms. Solis has vowed to make sure Seney understands Veterans teachers and students come first.

  4. How about another update! The bar was set so low for the STAMP program because they lied about the need; that now children are being sent back to their home campuses because they can't cut it! What a bunch of crap and this is CATA's legacy! Answer me this Cata, how many children from Hanna dropped out of the current med program to come to stamp? I believe that number is zip! What a legacy pendeja!

  5. To the first poster, you're full of shit! She herself has said that she has no back bone and must do what she is told! This coming from the horses mouth!

  6. as for the bar being set low, all you have to do is verify this with the STAMP math teachers. Many of the STAMP students were let into the program even after failing their EOC exams last year. This was supposed to be about the best students, but when the enrollment numbers came in low, they didn't want to be embarrassed, so they allowed anyone who applied to enter. This way they could show the public that there was a need and interest for it.

  7. Solis is not principal material and does what ever she is told. She is still being controlled by SA.

    1. You are correct, although the same can be said for Seney, MS is just really not that smart, and is easily controlled. SPA is in control.

SPA is circulating around all of the middle schools trying to convince the better students to find some way to get into the STAMP.

    2. The reason why she is doing this is to make sure they keep up the numbers that they told everyone there would be. in order to make Veterans completely STAMP, they need to show that a majority of the students want to go there. Remember, they told the public that there were 600 applicants every year to the Hanna Magnet and that Hanna could only take in 240. When they opened up the STAMP program, only around 240 applied so they had to extend the deadline and then started to set the standards low so they could get the numbers up. They will accept just about anyone to prove their theory.

  8. The bar is always set low. That's why these kids never acheive. Their expectations are to basically be able to add 3 + 4 and write a few sentences in English. And coddling them if they can't. SORRY, this will make them FAIL out of any real college program and any university besides UTB, where they get their overpriced TORTILLA degrees.

  9. Wow, thrilled to have stumbled upon this local news source & thread! I was one of the many parents completely disgusted with BISD a year ago when the carpet got yanked from under what was a dream school setting: happy students, teachers, staff and fantastic administrator, Ms. Ameel. I am a certified teacher and parent of a senior at VMHS. My child left SciTech because she wanted a 'normal' HS experience, extra curricular activities etc., and we moved to Brownsville just so she could attend VMHS. Boy did I regret that decision this time last year, when she came home sobbing telling me how the whole campus was in shock- teachers, football guys, all the cheerleaders/dance team crying, devastated; it put a very dark cloud over the whole first semester. When I saw that letters from parents and community veterans, feedback from meetings with students and staff in support of the original vision for VMHS and Ms. Ameel, all being ignored and disregarded, I knew that BISD was being run by mafiosos, not public servants who held the best interest of the students and community at heart. Atrocious waste of taxpayers money and community resources, and for what? The 'STAMP' program will never be in the same league as SciTech/Med High. NEVER. STISD is a micro district with a singular purpose and vision to provide an academically excellent secondary education. Most members of the faculty are MASTER educators, with expertise in their subject area. The student body is comprised of the top academic talent from the entire valley. BISD officials in the STAMP camp are either completely detached from reality OR they know it's all a farce and are just riding the power & money gravy train. Who killed 'Camelot'? The district DESPOTS. My child survived although I can assure you it tainted her entire HS experience. She will graduate this year with top honors but that's the last the district will see of my family, I will teach and my two small children will attend.. ANYWHERE but BISD.
