Deadly Slime Threatens Isla Blanca Park; Rivera Joins Cronies in Pushing for Beach Development

Gilberto Hinojosa Pushed for
Development in Public Park
In 2005 County Judge Gilberto Hinojosa and the commissioners agreed on a deal to develop the donated land on South Padre Island we recognize as Isla Blanca Park.  A shell corporation named Laguna Madre Enhancement Group, LLC. represented developers who had designs on the public beach area, wanting to construct a hotel, condominiums, time-shares and possibly a casino if that became legal.

Not widely advertised was the obvious interference the project would have with public beach access.  The proposed project seemingly conflicted, not only with the Texas Open Beaches Act, but also stipulations on land use made by the land's donor.

Abel Limas Ruled in Favor of the
Developer to Enforce the Lease,
Denying Public Beach Access
Private citizens, opposing the development, formed Private Citizens Who Care~South Padre Island  and filed suit to prevent the lease and subsequent development from going forward. The case was eventually heard three years later in Cameron County District Court in a case presided over by Judge Abel Limas.  Not surprisingly, the corrupt, now imprisoned, Limas, ruled in favor of the developer, enforcing the lease and opening the way for denial of public access to the beach area.

In a successful appeal to the 13th Court of Appeals the lease with the developers was ruled "unenforceable,"  preserving public beach access for the time being and stopping development on  public land.

Joe Rivera Will Push for
Isla Blanca Park Development
if Elected County Judge
The fight to preserve this public park and beach access is not over.  County Judge Candidate Joe Rivera declared at the 2014 Democratic Party Forum, that, should he be elected County Judge, he would implement the original lease, following the master plan to develop Isla Blanca Park as originally proposed by his friend Gilberto Hinojosa.

Rivera faces incumbent Carlos Cascos in the 2014 Cameron County election.

  4. A vote for Joe is a vote for Gilberto Hinojosa and continueation of all the corruption connected to the Democratic Party and its, now jailed members. Joe has an advertisement that criticizes Carlos for not fighting corruption.....well when has Joe ever made a statement against corruption in his own party. Joe is a side-kick of Aurora de la Garza.....the queen of local corruption in the Cameron Co. judiciary. Joe has sat on his fat butt for over 30 years and has said nothing to fight corruption in this county. He has never exercised or demonstrated any leadership. Joe is just another fat slug in the Democratic Party who obeys the guidance from Gilberto.

  5. Seven people were injured after a car crashed into the front of a Mexican restaurant Thursday evening, Los Fresnos police said.

The 56-year-old female driver had just pulled into the parking lot of Taqueria Los Pericos, located at 7473 Village Parkway, around 6:15 p.m. when she accidently accelerated the vehicle, driving through the entrance of the restaurant, said Lt. Nate Salazar.

Six customers were injured, including two seriously, and were transported to local hospitals. The driver was also hospitalized.

Preliminary reports indicate that the crash was caused by driver error and alcohol is not believed to be a factor.

"We're really fortunate that there weren't more traumatic injuries," Salazar told the Valley Morning Star.

  8. I want to say one more thing, Anonymous keeps kicking a dead horse. Abel Limas has been found guilty and is paying for the crimes he committed. It is time to move on.. I actually knew Abel Limas dad and had regular coffee meetings on Saturday with him. Mr. Limas, a retired police officer who many respected was a friend to many, including me and because of him, I supported and voted for Abel Limas and many did the same as me. I am not afraid to say it, but none of us responsible for his actions. None of us can indicted for knowing him, voting for him, or being his friend, associate, or being his family who must endure the stain by Abel. This not their fault, but according to the blogger who keeps bringing Abel Limas up to suit his purpose to elect Cascos anyone and everyone who had a connection to Cascos is guilty of the same. How pathetic and demeaning to all those who are related or knew Abel. Hopefully, this alone will make people think and vote Cascos out. My opinion..

    1. I thought Gilbert Hinojosa was the one bringing up Limas and blaming Cascos for Limas actions....maybe you should direct your comment to Mr. Hinojosa.

  10. Channel 5 News tonight put the "spin" on Isla Blanca development as "related" to SpaceX development. Looks like someosne is stoking the fire for turning over the public area, even before the public has been made aware of this issue. Why does that development have to on public land, why not put that development on the North side of SPI????? Who is leading this "spin".....???????????????
