Did Austin Lawyer Marc Rosenthal Promise Teleton $1,000,000, But Only Give $10,000?

Marc Rosenthal
Teleton U.S.A. describes itself in this way:

"Telethon and Univision join forces to create Teleton USA. What began as a dream in India and then spread to Mexico and Latin America now reaches the United States.

Teleton USA comes to sow the seeds of a legacy of unity, solidarity and love, calling on the entire Hispanic community to join this cause on behalf of children with disabilities, cancer and autism.

Your donation will go to the creation of the first children's rehabilitation center in the U.S. Telethon and support some of the most prestigious children's hospitals in the nation."

Marc Rosenthal, the Austin lawyer recently indicted for racketeering in conjunction with the Abel Limas investigation, allegedy promised the charity a million dollar donation.  Perhaps the motive was pure, helping children with disabilities, cancer and autism or possibly was simply an attempt to clean up an image tarnished by the allegations.

In any event, now we're being told that after getting considerable publicity for the large donation forthcoming to Teleton USA, Rosenthal lowered the donation by 99% to a mere $10,000.

Here is the explanation on the Teleton Facebook site, where Rosenthal had previously received many congratulatory comments for his considerable largess:

"WE INFORM THAT THE DONATION THAT THEY HAVE JUST BEEN INFORMED IS INCORRECT
The lawyer of the link was wrong and your donation, checked with the deposit tab is $10,000. Thank you greatly for that donation but it is important to clarify that it was not a deposit of $1,000,000"

Likely the charity is appreciative of the smaller donation, but feels the need to correct a false impression that a much larger gift was given, lest it stifle other contributors.  Necessary record-keeping will also reflect the correct amount contributed.

  1. I find it interesting that all these non profit groups have no backbone ..they accept and publicize donations that have tainted reputations. this event and the jimmy gonzalez Posada de ninos, bike run some months ago.
great message to our youth...... drug convictions. and indictments ..its ok when you have money.

  2. That's plenty of money, same amount Gloria and Emilio Stefan donated, what's wrong? He might have been nervous and said one million, or maybe meant one million Pesos, who knows, but 10,000 is plenty, specially for Televisa!

  3. I knew Marc Rosenthal well and he may be a total jackass, I am no admirerer of his, but I have to admit that he actually did have a very generous side. He gave and helped a number of people that he did not have to and got no recognition for. I suspect somewhere deep inside himself he was trying to make amends for other wrong deeds??? Who knows...but giving gifts and contributions was something he did do frequently even if he did get recognized for it. Just my personal observatins...

  4. I've known Marc for ages. He's actually a good guy. Brilliant as well & comes from a great family. He and his wife (now deceased) were always giving to charities. Are they not aware his money may be tied up right now???? Jerkoffs. Rosenthal doesn't go around saying he's gonna give money & then doesn't. He probably said 10,000.00 and they didn't see the decimal point.
